On Page Optimization And Its Important Features

Labels: , , , ,

To obtain a good rank and position in the search engines isn’t the easiest thing for many of us. With the advancement in Internet era, search engines are also becoming intelligent and smarter everyday. And so we must ensure more than just having good and quality content to outcast the competition.

What is On Page Optimization?
These factors are directly related to the content, structure and design of your website. On page optimization basically involves managing and optimizing the keyword frequency in URL, Page Title, Headings, Anchor Text and Content Body.

I have tried to elaborate some of the on page optimization techniques below, so that you can implement them in a proper way to get better search engine exposure.

Title Optimization
The website title is the most important factor in optimizing a site. The title tag of a webpage should be very short but at the same time should be descriptive enough to let the visitors know what the webpage is about. Search engines index the Title tag before anything else and it is also shown along with the Search result, and hence it has its own importance.

Following things should be kept in mind while optimizing Title tags:
  • Don’t forget to include your sites keywords in the Title.
  • Include your Business Name / Site Name (if necessary) in the title.
  • Avoid using repeated keywords in the title.
  • Write unique title tags for each web page of your website. Avoid using the same title over all the pages of the website.
  • The W3C recommends a maximum length of 64 characters in the title whereas Google considers only 66 characters. It is therefore recommended to keep your title length below 65 characters only.
Meta Tags Optimization
Meta tags are not as important as once they used to be, but still they can’t be completely neglected. Meta Description is a brief summary of the webpage content and also is displayed along with the search results. Therefore it still has its significance. This informatory piece of description is like an advertising snippet, and if the searcher finds it informative and attractive, he is likely to click on your site and visit your site to get some more information from it.

Following things should be kept in mind while optimizing Meta Tags:
  • Don’t forget to include your sites keywords in the Meta tags.
  • Include your Business Name / Site Name (if necessary).
  • Avoid using repeated keywords in the title.
  • Write unique description for each web page of your website.
  • Restrict your description length to about 154 characters as Google will neglect anything that is written beyond it.
Optimizing Important HTML Tags
There are several other tags that need to be optimized which actually catches the attention of the viewers reading your website. These include: H1, H2, H3, Bold/Strong. Among these the H1 and H2 tags play a very important role in optimizing a webpage. Basically these are used as post / article titles or some other important sections of the website.
  • H1 and H2 Tags: H1 is the most important tag and should be used to write the page title. It should appear only once in a page. Though H2 tags can be used as Sub-Headings and can come several times in one page. But don’t forget to insert the important keywords in each of them.
  • Text Styles: Bold, Italics and Quote are also important tags to be taken care of. Though they don’t hold much emphasis but still are important building blocks for optimizing your website. Its good to bold your keywords in the content body, however don’t overdo it.
Other On-Page Optimization Factors
  • Optimizing Anchor Text. Include the appropriate keyword in the anchor text which gives the link a ‘proper meaning’ and value.
  • Image optimization using keywords in image alt tag and image title tag.
